Food is an important part in Chinese culture – it is deeply rooted and is the centre of any gathering. In Chinese culture, not only empasis the enjoyment of eating, but believe eating good food can bring harmony and closeness to the family and relationships.
Having settled in the UK for over 30 years, Chinese cuisine are still the most cooked food in the Chung household.
Here’re some of grandma Loi, mum Em and daughter Loz’s favourite dishes:
What dishes do you cook most?
Braised pork (客家焖猪肉), steamed pork patty (蒸肉餅), stuffed green peppers (釀青椒), kids love this dish.
Food wise, I prefer Chinese food to be honest. Although, occasionally having British Western food is good, ultimately, Chinese food has a lot more variety and generally suits my taste buds more.
Chinese roast duck Japanese Ramen Chinese sausage fried rice wonton noodle Steamed chicken
Pan fried chicken wings with hoisin sauce Ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce Japanese Sushi and sashimi Chicken feet in black bean sauce Lobster with ginger and spring onion
What food do you eat at home?
For dinner, it’s always been Chinese, always been Chinese, unless we go out.
I’ve always said I’ve never really like rice
I’d say probably 340 days (a year) we’d have rice
I do miss it (after I’ve gone to uni)
